Pink goes by many names and symbolism. It is also a symbol of “breast cancer” and October is Breast Cancer Month.
During this month, a throng of brands across multiple industries are doing their own share of promoting, what many believe is worth fighting, through public awareness. Call it social responsibility or just another marketing strategy; taking up the cause and hitching on the bandwagon is doing the advocacy good.
Social campaigns between brands vary from donating parts of sales to sponsoring breast cancer activities. While many female-related brands are taking up the cause, as expected, other industries catering to both genders are just as into it like travel and tourism. abc NEWS – Travel & Lifestyle via GOOD MORNING AMERICA announced that Travel Industry Goes Pink This October.
Today kicks off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the travel industry — from spas to hotels and even one airline — are going pink. Delta Air Lines painted one plane pink to celebrate and honors breast cancer survivors.
But Delta’s pink plane is just one example of the travel industry supporting Breast Cancer Awareness. Hotels and spas and even one restaurant chain also are going pink — at least temporarily. The famed Burj Al Arab hotel is Dubai has lit its famous sail pink with a pink-ribbon projection and will keep it that way all month.
Several hotels are participating in this Breast Cancer Month affair. Such as:
- Peninsula Hotels — ‘Peninsula en Rose’
- Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort
- The Seagate Hotel & Spa, Florida
- Harrah’s Resort Southern California, San Diego
If you will check-in Peninsula Hotels, expect a limited-edition Oscar de la Renta amenity kit, a pink mud spa treatment and a pink French-themed tea service with éclairs and other especial nibbles made for the occasion. The hotels will also hold French-themed afternoon tea and cocktails in pink. Part of the proceeds will be donated to charities.

Harrah’s Resort Southern California in San Diego is participating through hosting the 2nd Annual Battle of the Bras poker tournament this October 25 with a goal of “raising awareness for the preventative health and treatment of breast cancer.” There will be the so-called “Battle of the Bras Deep Stacks Poker Tournament,” a “no-limit hold ‘em poker” tourney featuring celebrities and well-know playmates.
