Going to Ko Samet in Thailand
One of the main destinations in Thailand is the island of Ko Samet, also called Ko Samed. It is about 125 miles from the city of Bangkok, Thailand’s capital. It is an island paradise since it houses several beaches and lush forests of the Khao Laem Ya – Mu Ko Samet National Park. So for those who have not yet gone to this island and are currently planning to visit here are several tips to help you get to Ko Samet island.
Trip Options to Ko Samet
A Bus to Rayong
Taking the bus to Rayong is a cheap way to reach Ban Phe pier. You also have 2 options. First is the cheap buses in the bus terminals. This will cost you around 160 baht for a 3.5 hour trip to Rayong. Then in Rayong you take the songthaew, the common public transport in Bangkok, to Ban Phe pier. This will cost you 20 baht so that is a total of 180 baht to reach Ban Phe. Your second option is the first class buses in the airport. You will still be riding the songthaew to reach the pier.
Minivan Ride
Other than a bus, there are also minivans in the airport that leads to Rayong and directly to the pier where the ferries to Ko Samet are. This is a much better option compared to the bus since you do not have to take a second ride in the songthaew. The cost is also not bad at 250 baht.
Taxi ride to Ban Phe Pier
The easiest way to reach the pier with the boat towards Ko Samet is a taxi ride. That should not be a problem in Bangkok since it is a metropolitan area. You can easily find a taxi from your hotel. Just remember to specifically mention Ban Phe pier in Rayong. This way the taxi driver will know the exact place where you want to go to.
Also remember that the taxi drivers would likely charge you off the meter. So prepare around 2000 to 2500 baht. But if you get lucky you can get a driver use the taxi meter and pay around 1600 to 1700 baht.
Plane ride to Ko Samet
If you want a plane ride to Ko Samet then your only option is Bangkok Airways. They are the only local airways firm that offers domestic travel to the island of Ko Samet from the U-Tapao Airport.
