Cagayan De Oro – Whitewater Rafting Paradise in the Philippines
The Philippines is one of the most popular Asian countries when it comes to tourists. But most foreigners tend to visit the country for its numerous beaches. The most popular to date is the island of Boracay. But for the locals, beaches are nothing but a common place of enjoyment. Filipinos look for alternatives for the typical white sand shores and crystal blue waters. And such a place is Cagayan De Oro city in Mindanao.
A lot of local tourists go to the City of Golden Friendship for one thing: whitewater rafting. For Filipinos, such activities are seen from television depicting rivers from foreign lands. With the discovery of the whitewater rafting potential of the rapids in the Cagayan River only a few years back, it is only expected from the locals to get really excited to know that they can actually experience what they see on TV in their homeland.
Foreigners can also enjoy this thrilling activity. And no, you do not have to be an experienced rafter to do it. Whitewater rafting in CDO (short for Cagayan De Oro city) comes in 3 levels: Beginners, Advance and Expert.
Cagayan De Oro’s Whitewater Rafting Levels
Beginner’s Course
CDO’s whitewater rafting starts with beginner’s course. The Beginner’s rafting course is the shortest and cheapest course. You are going to traverse a total of 14 rapids within 12 kilometers of the Cagayan River. Of course you will be wearing full rafting gear: helmet, life vest and paddle.
Advance Course
The advance rafting course is not exclusive to non-beginners. Beginners can still opt for this course. All it takes is guts. Depending on the company that is going to provide the rafting services, the cost is usually twice that of the beginner’s course. This time, instead of 14, you will be going through 21 rapids on a 20km rafting course. Depending on the flow of the river, this one will last for 2 to 4 hours. There are occasional calm portions and continuous rapids for this course so expect a good chance of falling off your raft.
Expert Course
Cagayan De Oro’s expert whitewater rafting course is high recommend only for those who have very good swimming skills and are physically fit for a continuous and strenuous physical activity. This course will last for 6 hours and mostly rapids. You will have very little time to take a break from paddling. Capsizing is almost unavoidable.
